Internet Marketing With A Landing Page ... Tips & IdeasViews: 365

Can you really make a fortune building LANDING PAGES???

Let's discuss this one, as I'm on the fence about what is the most appropriate way to build a landing page.

Many people just build them and point links into their site. They fill a page with search engine rich content and link back to their site from their page.

THIS WILL NOT WORK if that page is on the same domain, as the search engines know and frown upon the landing page TRICK. UNLESS, that page has links FROM YOUR SITE to it and is full of VALID, relevant content. That's right. You must back link to that page AND give it rich content in order for that page to have any REAL value.

Now... you CAN remove these landing pages from your site, and say purchase a new domain for each new landing page. Search engines DO like this a little more, however if there are NO back links into this web site, the page relevancy will remain LOW, making the landing page just a back link page... as no one will ever actually land on it.

Search Engines DO NOT pick up sites that have never been linked into from SOME other site. SURE you can submit, submit, submit, and a few months later... yes, you will be in their data base... but not for ANY keywords (no matter how SEO rich that page seems). You'll just be there. Someone would have to physically type your full domain name in order to find you. I tend to believe that person could have found you anyway.

So... how do we build a better landing page.

Follow these few rules (and PLEASE share your thoughts on more via comments below ... I'm REALLY LOOKING for better advice on these).

1. Make sure your landing page is not only SEO rich, but actually rich in content. This will help if you actually land a visitor on your page. Even if the search engine was fooled. The visitor to your site will look at gobble-de-gook text FULL OF KEYWORDS to be useless to them, therefore not using your landing page as a stepping stone to your ACTUAL page. IN short... make sure the content is worthy... in fact, if your selling something... you SHOULD be trying to sell right from your landing page (or at least guiding them towards a sale... hyping up your product, service, niche market or industry. MAKE THAT LANDING PAGE COUNT.

2. MAKE SURE YOUR LANDING PAGE HAS BACKLINKS. This can be easily achieved by adding your landing pages to web rings and link exchanges. This is a great way to keep web ring and link exchange clutter off you "REAL" site. However, link exchanges and web rings often have rules and standards... that's why it's so critical that the content on this page have legitimate value (as per rule 1 above).

3. DO NOT HOST LANDING PAGES ON YOUR SAME DOMAIN... and I would even extend that caveat to not hosting landing pages on the same server... UNLESS, those pages are ACTUALLY linked into the matrix of your web site. Often you can achieve this by having a site map, and linking to the pages from the site map... rather than having to work the links into your navigation or actual content pages. The point is... Search engines are looking for landing pages... and blacklisting them AND possibly the page they point to. If you host one on your server, on your domain name and that page ONLY points into your web site, and has no relevant links in... the Search Engines will flag it as a landing page and WILL NOT USE IT as such.

Ok... that's a start.

Landing pages are VERY useful ..... but have to be done right.

Now, PLEASE discuss the best practices and the best ways to convert these landing pages into stepping stones to your ACTUAL web sites.

Ready .... set .... COMMENT!

God Bless,
